Venice in April 2026 – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress, prices in hotels and on excursions. What to see in Venice in April, what to do for adults and families with children, where to go to Venetto and beyond – tells Eurotraveler.
Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev in his novel “The Day Before” wrote : “Anyone who has not seen Venice in April is hardly familiar with all the ineffable charm of this magical city”. Centuries have passed, but this statement has not lost its relevance!
However, it cannot be said that many people are guided by it today. Because in April, Venice sees only a real tourist invasion for 2-3 days – if Catholic Easter is celebrated this month (in 2026, the holiday falls on 05.04).
And the rest of the time, the “City on the Water” is not deserted, but it does not seem to be crowded with loitering personalities.
Of course, you need to use it. And not only because you have a great opportunity to walk along the embankments without watching the backs of the citizens in front of you all the time.
But also because even in early April, the weather in Venice does not tend to annoy the traveler. Although, it would seem, on the edge of cold March, I could make an effort to do this.
But no, on the contrary! Moreover, from our point of view, she looks better than her “colleague” in May.
Both in terms of precipitation per head (there are fewer of them) and the number of clear days
And, of course, the prices. Because in the middle of spring, on the banks of the Grand Canal, they are just beginning to figure out what kind of profit they can expect in the coming season.
Venice Weather in April
It is characterized by an abundance of very warm days and therefore deserves extremely laudatory reviews. In any case, from the side of active travelers who like to wander a lot.
Natures who prefer to contemplate, frozen on some bench on the embankment, may be dissatisfied with some coolness. But the majority will find no reason to complain.
In early April, the air temperature in Venice prefers to vibrate in the daytime in the range of 12-15 °C. And only at night it drops to 5-8 ° C.

In the second half of the month, the atmosphere is able to warm up to 18-20 degrees Celsius during the day. Although, of course, there are days when outdoor thermometers persistently do not show more than 14-15 °C at noon.
At the very end of April, Venice is getting warmer, and there is a kind of turning point in weather conditions. Nature seems to turn sharply to face people, and the sun effortlessly and almost every day heats the air to 20 degrees Celsius and above.
With some variations, but this pattern repeats itself in Venice in the middle of spring from year to year. The air temperature may be lower or higher, but there is still a clear promise of warm weather in the atmosphere.
The sun is shining so brightly, as if it missed you over the winter and rejoices at the opportunity to see all that beauty below again. The sky is gently blue, vaporetto water buses are busily scurrying along the greenish and surprisingly not at all dirty surface of the lagoon, fresh but gentle breezes are blowing from the sea.
Precipitation
Rains are not that rare, but in any case they are not hopeless. In the middle of spring, Venetian showers have the pleasant property of ending quickly.
And their power, unlike autumn, does not depress. On the contrary, you feel as if nature is washing away the fatigue that has accumulated over the winter.
The average monthly precipitation is about 90 mm, which is noticeably less than in May. The number of rainy days is 5-6 per month.

How to Dress
If you read online reviews about a trip to Venice in the middle or end of April, you will be surprised to find that some tourists take quite summer things with them. That is, the tourists, of course – they can’t wait to change into summer sundresses and miniskirts!
And, most interestingly, you don’t have to complain about your own frivolity afterwards. On the contrary, it turns out that the weather seems to be condescending to such escapades.
Without trying to freeze at the first opportunity. Even the fresh winds blowing over the lagoon lose their former – if you came to see Venice in December, you should understand what we are talking about – winter harshness.
However, we recommend that you do not forget to put warmer clothes in your suitcase. After all, in April Venice seems to be created for romantic moonlit walks and similar entertainment.
Which, again, can be as low as 5 °C at night, is unlikely to inspire those who wear only a light jacket.
Anyway, you won’t regret taking umbrellas and even raincoats with you. Tourists who travel to Venice by car may well bring rubber boots with them.
And then feel like real “kings”, compared to other tourists wearing disposable plastic boots for €15 pair.
We assure you that for this amount you can buy inexpensive souvenirs in Italy – and very original ones at that. For example, Murano glass products: simple women’s jewelry, rings, earrings, beads and bracelets cost about that much.
Equally, for €15 you can have a quick snack in a cafe. Not the trickiest of Italian dishes, of course, most likely: pizza or pasta.
But this is enough to continue walking again until the legs “strike”.
Prices 2026
Those who have been to Venice before and know what they can save money on will not be too shocked. For example, on accommodation – subject to early booking, you can find a good option for two for about €150-170 € a night.
And in Venice itself, not in Mestre!
After all, rooms in hotels and apartments in Cannaregio, as well as Castello and Dorsoduro are 15-25 percent cheaper than those in San Marco. Greatly inflating the price due to the proximity to the famous basilica and the same palace.
At the same time, everyone somehow forgets that seeing the sights of Venice once again, walking through it is the dream of any sane person?! It wouldn’t be a pity to pay extra for such an opportunity, would it?!
By the way, lovers of silence and solitude can pay attention to the Giudecca. An incredibly atmospheric island, where tourists usually wander solely out of ignorance.
Our friends who visited Venice last April did just that, finding a cozy and not (outrageously) expensive B&b Giudecca Bella. Quiet, clean… located near the vaporetto stop.
Using it, you will be wandering around St. Mark’s Square in 15 minutes!
However, if you are lucky enough to get a discount, you can stay closer to the center for the same amount. For example, at the Locanda Ca’ Zose in the Dorsoduro area.
That is, literally a couple of minutes walk from Santa Maria della Salute – on the one hand. And the Galleries of the Academy – on the other hand!

In Mestre
we strongly recommend the inexpensive (from 80 € for two people per night), but advantageously located Hotel Delle Rose. It is convenient to get from it both to the airport and to Venice itself (tram line T1).
There is also a supermarket nearby. Where, if you wish, you can buy so many delicious (and healthy) things that you won’t eat during the entire trip)
Another good option (judging by the reviews) is Staycity Aparthotels Venice Mestre, located in pleasant proximity to the bus stop and Mestre Train Station. Accommodation there in April also costs about 80-90 € per night.
And this, again, is very little compared to how much hoteliers in Venice itself are asking!
Tours
A high-quality individual tour, which in 2 hours introduces tourists to the main attractions, including the inside, costs from €30-35. Travelers who want to visit Murano and Burano in the company of a guide will pay about the same amount.
How much does a gondola ride along the Grand Canal cost accompanied by an audio guide? Most likely, about €50. Although, probably, you can find slightly less ruinous offers.
What to Do
You will definitely not have a shortage of opportunities! So give up the idea of coming to Venice in April for just a couple of days – you won’t have time to really explore the main attractions of the “City on the Water” in 3 days!
Because you’ll be constantly “hanging out” in one place. Trying to keep this piercing beauty in my memory forever, as if it had just been painted on a fresh canvas.
Well, that’s it. St. Mark’s Square, the Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and Santa Maria della Salute for a snack are all for the first day. San Giorgio Maggiore and the Accademia Gallery, Frari Basilica are on the second floor.
A trip to the island of Torcello and Burano, to the glassblowers on the island of Murano (most correctly – in this order!) you will diversify your third day of vacation.
By the way, buy a vaporetto pass for 3 days or even for a week. Because this way you will save a significant amount!
Young people definitely need to get a Rolling Venice for themselves (to save even more money – read more here)!
On the fourth day, you can relax and go nowhere. Just walk along the narrow streets and admire the sunlight in the canals for a long time.
Or, if you are young and active, plan a tour of Verona: the Juliet House, the amphitheater and other not too obvious sights.
It would be nice to save time for a trip to Treviso and even to the Dolomites – they make an exceptionally vivid impression in the middle of spring. Lovers of beautiful natural views may well want to pay a visit to Lake Garda.
