Rome in June – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, air temperature, how to dress, prices 2026 in hotels and on excursions. What to do and see in Rome in June, where to visit nearby, to go for a seaside vacation – tells Eurotraveler.
The “Eternal City” is quite naturally the most visited tourist destination in Italy. And while in winter there may be a certain shortage of people idly loitering around the streets with cameras and selfie sticks, at other times of the year the streets are crowded with curious people.
In this sense, summer is the peak time. However, it’s not just that!
The number of travelers arriving in Rome from outside is also incredibly high at Easter. Italians themselves use a short spring break to visit the capital of the country. And, if possible, hear the Pope’s sermon.
In the period from June to August, Rome attracts travelers in a different way: mostly cloudless, albeit very hot weather. On the one hand, it is well suited for hiking tours of ancient paving stones. On the other hand, it forces you to take a careful approach to route planning.
And sometimes even forcing you to change your tactics and your waking hours! Indeed, in other months, evening or morning walks are the only reasonable way to explore the Italian capital.
Briefly
- Is it worth visiting Rome in June? Definitely and even – preferably! Because it is a warm, sometimes even hot, but still not a sweltering month. With air temperatures rarely rising above 30 degrees Celsius in the first half of the month and extremes in the form of 32-35 – closer to July. There are exceptions, as we will emphasized below
- What to take to summer Rome from clothes? Lightweight clothes made of natural fabrics that will help you feel comfortable (in synthetics you will get exhausted) on the hottest day. And at the same time, they will protect the skin from sunburn – long sleeves and trousers are welcome
- Is it cheaper in Rome in June or July? It’s hard to say for sure, probably in July after all. But in any case, it should be borne in mind that due to the rapidly growing tourist flow, prices in the “Eternal City” climb to annual peaks in the summer months
Weather in Rome in June
Theoretically, it allows a lot. After all, meteorologists usually promise moderate heat with air temperatures up to 27-30 degrees Celsius and a low probability of precipitation.
Needless to say, weather forecasters often make mistakes?! And if it’s really not stupefyingly hot in Rome at the beginning of June (usually no higher than 25-27 °C), then it’s better to be prepared in the middle and end of the month!
Temperatures in the range of 30-35 ° C during the day and about 22-25 degrees at night

Such weather can last for a week or two without a break, turning walking around a hot city into something like a duty. But in some years, periods of crazy heat in Rome in June are replaced by periods that are not so exhausting, with air temperatures around 24-26 °C.
Again, you can rearrange your daily schedule and go out on the boardwalks in the evenings or even at night. When Rome starts to look particularly antique and sophisticated. At the same time, it is also refreshing!
Just keep in mind that it’s better to go for a walk after 8 p.m., when the sun finally goes to sleep below the horizon. You can end your wandering around the “Eternal City” at least at 6-7 o’clock in the morning, although the sun rises above it long before 5 o’clock at this time!
The duration of daylight in Rome throughout June is 15 hours or more.
Precipitation
According to long-term statistics, it rains sparsely and rarely in early summer in the Italian capital: no more than 3-4 times a month. And the total precipitation rate is no more than 20-25 mm.
It’s amazing, isn’t it? – it does not allow us to talk about the exceptional health of the June climate in Rome. On the contrary, you can often find references to “humid and stuffy” in reviews, even on sunny days the atmosphere puts pressure on the psyche as if it lives in anticipation of a thunderstorm.
But the thunderstorms themselves ignore the great city. Not allowing you to feel the relief that always comes after a stormy summer rain.
What to Take with You
In June, everyone in Rome wears whatever they have to, but the vast majority wear completely summer clothes. That is, in light dresses and sundresses, skirts, thin T-shirts and shirts, tops, shorts and similar things in light colors and made of natural fabrics.
The feet of tourists during this period will most like open sandals and sandals.
As for hats, we urge you to take it seriously. Stock up on a panama hat, a cap or a wide-brimmed hat that sufficiently obscures the face (and preferably also the neck).
When going outside, you should always put at least a liter of drinking water in your bag or backpack. Or you can buy what you need at the nearest store.

You can also make a vow to eat only gelato, light salads and sandwiches (the first is not very good in Rome, but the second and third are good). At least until the evening, when a drop in air temperature to 21-24 degrees Celsius will make you want to taste something more substantial.
Is it worth putting an umbrella in the luggage, that is, an extra 300-500 grams? It is unlikely – the probability that such a “device” will be useful is low.
Prices 2026
They are tall. Therefore, if you want to pay for accommodation, albeit a lot of money, but still raise money and at the same time settle in a good hotel (apartment), you should book accommodation no later than March-April.
And do not expect that you will find options cheaper than €110-120 per night (taxes not included) for two. In any case, if you purposefully avoid the area around Termini Station, which is too hot and very dangerous (especially at night).
From our subjective point of view, the Una Chicca a Roma hotel looks like an excellent accommodation option in the Eternal City. Which is located in the suburbs, but is connected to Rome itself by a convenient and regular train service.
The location of the designated hotel will especially appeal to those who arrive by air and for a short time (here is how to quickly get to Rome from Fiumicino). And then I intend to continue my journey… in Italy or abroad.
Located in the city itself, although some would say in a Roman suburb, Demi’s home guest house is not particularly expensive, but also not cheap (from €140 per night). It deserves a high rating despite the fact that it is impossible to quickly get from it even to the Vatican (15-20 minutes), not to mention the center of Rome (30-40 minutes).
But the guest house has a shared kitchen for several rooms. And, therefore, you can easily prepare yourself a quick snack, having returned from the heat of the Roman streets flooded with light and warmth.
Excursions
They seem to be inexpensive. However, it significantly depends on what you would actually like to receive.

If you are part of a small group with a guide to explore the Vatican museums and see the Sistine Chapel, visit St. Peter’s Cathedral, then you need to cook from €60-75. But you can go on a guided tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum for €40.
What to Do
We have no right to advise you on this issue – we can only suggest that you study our list of places that you can see in Rome in 4 days. Otherwise, you should independently develop travel routes adjusted for the high probability of hot and cloudless weather.
Are you able to get up early and/or are you not afraid of the incredible crowds of tourists? Then you should definitely visit the Colosseum (there is practically no shade, if you exclude underground rooms) and the Roman Forum (the same problem). Try to feel the coolness near the Trevi Fountain, cool down the heated self inside St. Peter’s Cathedral and the Vatican museums.
It is strongly recommended to book tickets for the latter in advance, at least 2-3 weeks before the expected date of the visit. We will also advise you to prepare for a visit to the Borghese Gallery, an extremely popular Roman attraction.
You can try to walk along the ancient Appian Way, pleasantly shaded in some places by huge pine trees. You will probably be able to buy tickets to some concert that they give in the summer in the baths of Caracalla – again, you will see live another, not the most famous sights of the city.
Where to Go
A lot of interesting things are located in the vicinity of Rome. And it’s not just the gardens and villas of Tivoli, where probably 80 percent of tourists go. But also the pope’s former summer residence in the town of Castel Gandolfo.
The settlement on the shores of Lake Albano is a miracle in itself, how good it is. And if you consider the possibility of visiting the previously closed to the public residence of the pontiff, it becomes obvious that you need to go there.
It is also quite possible to visit the towns of Vitterbo in Lazio in a day (100 km – the ancient Papal Palace) and Orvieto in Umbria (125 km – cathedral and dungeons).
He often visits citizens who come to Rome in June, and the idea of a trip to Primorye. After all, the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea can also be reached by metro and train in just an hour.
Most Romans go to Lido di Ostia for a weekend in good weather and hang out there until they forget themselves. Subtle natures who love a calmer rhythm of life are shown places further away and quieter: Anzio and Nettuno.
