Istanbul in June – is it worth going? Weather and reviews, air and sea temperature, whether it is possible to swim on the Prince Islands and Black Sea coast, 2026 hotel prices. What to see in Istanbul in the beginning of summer, where to go: in the surroundings and beyond – in a detailed review of Eurotraveler.
June is a summer month. With one name, it clearly provokes people (at least from the Nordic countries), who have been longing for the south for a year, to travel to warmth, sun and … the sea.
Why not to Istanbul? Since Turkey’s largest and most interesting metropolis happily meets all three necessary conditions?
Therefore, although no one would call this city a beach destination in a dream, people are willing to come here at the dawn of summer. Obviously, without cherishing the indispensable desire to swim, Istanbul attracts others in June. Mostly clear, warm, and even hot weather, with maximum daylight hours.
On the one hand, yes, it’s a pity to miss the chance to lie on the beach, because in Antalya in June you can swim and swim?! But on the other hand, Turkish resorts are not going anywhere in the 2-3 days that you spend exploring the legendary Constantinople?!
Of course, it’s not too easy to arrange a trip to Istanbul on your own – this is not a tour for you to buy. But in general, no special difficulties are expected either.
After all, all you need to do is develop routes, buy plane tickets, book a hotel, and maybe rent a car. The latter, of course, is optional – not everyone wants to drive on vacation.
Too many items? Do not hesitate – you will succeed! Moreover, below we have outlined practical information that should help…
Weather in Istanbul in June
In a particular year, it is unlikely to be much different from its traditional early summer version. Therefore, tourists should prepare for temperatures from 25 to 34 °C, the sun shining whole day long, and a low probability of rains.
At first, it will be colder at night – down to 17-18 °C. But towards the end of June, Istanbul will feel fully prepared for the high season, raising the night temperature to 22-24 °C.

It rains a maximum of 2-4 times a month. And according to statistics, total volume of precipitation is small – up to 30-35 mm.
And you won’t find any resentment about precipitation in the reviews. No matter, everyone is too busy to pay attention!
Of course, it is better to develop a plan B to actively counteract unexpected weather disasters. And go through a little rain in some museum – the Istanbul Welcome Card will allow you to do this without a break for as long as 7 days!
Not sure where to go in Istanbul first? We’ve covered everything in our article!
The winds from the Bosphorus are not too strong in June. And those are pleasant. After all, they completely forget about their very recent (in March-April) desire to pierce and not just hurt.
On the contrary, sea breezes gently blow over the sun-warmed skin. And only in the evenings can their impulses make you nervous, forcing you to fasten your jacket or blouse.
Sea Temperature
Is it worth swimming? In Istanbul? In early June?
It’s better to wait a bit! After all, you can easily do this pleasant and even useful thing on the second stage of your trip.
For example, by going to the resort town of Sharkey on the European shore of the Marmara Sea. Or by planning a vacation at its more famous Asian “colleagues”: Mudanya and Erdek.
The latter is especially well suited for holidays with young children. Because it attracts mostly the “right”, that is, a calm and balanced holiday-maker. Someone who wants to relax, not jump around discos from evening to morning.
In June, however, the Marmara Sea rarely warms up above 22-24 degrees Celsius. The popular Kusadasi on the Aegean Sea is a completely different matter. It is quite possible to go on a holiday by the sea to Bodrum or Marmaris a little further south.

At this time, the bathing season is not only open there, but it has gained quite a lot of momentum. Although the majority of tourists – the British and Germans – have not yet caught up.
Yes, you will have to ride: overcome 550 km in the first case and as much as 700 km (the approximate distance from Istanbul to Bodrum) in the second case. But any such trip on Turkish roads can easily be completed during daylight hours.
Even if you are not too confident in your driving skills. We intend to go strictly according to the rules and generally – not in a hurry!
By the way, the distance from Istanbul to Antalya is also small. “Only” 700 km along the highway laid in the central regions of the country. It’s about 9-10 hours on the way.
Note that there are also good beach resorts to the north of the main Turkish metropolis. Widely known is the Black Sea resort of Kumkoi, which Istanbul residents consider to be something like a country beach.
And they are somewhat less well known to foreigners: Shile and Agva. However, they are also located at quite digestible distances: 75 and 100 kilometers, respectively.
Here is where to go to the sea from Istanbul.
How to Dress and What to Take
It is clear that the restrictions imposed by airlines on the volume and weight of luggage that you need to take with you on a vacation in Turkey are forcing you to squeeze in every way. And in a specific case, you should be able to do it without much crying.
Because the jacket or hoodie that you will wear when going on a trip – it’s not hot in Europe yet – will be enough in most possible situations. Especially if these jackets are equipped with a hood.
Sneakers or moccasins for walking should be duplicated with lighter shoes: sandals or sandals. Still, don’t be shy about packing a large number of breeches, shorts, tops, and T-shirts into your suitcase.
There should be two pairs of swimsuit wears – this is the standard amount that you need to take to the sea. Some people take all three. If they suspect that humidity will not allow them to dry wet clothes quickly.
Wide-brimmed panama hats and at least one long-sleeved cotton or linen shirt are equally useful.

What for? You’ll know when you get a sunburn.
Oh yes: sunscreen and an ointment that stimulates the regeneration of damaged tissues such as Bepanthen should also be present in the luggage. Well, and a first-aid kit with some medicines – it’s better not to travel far without it today.
Here what to take with you to the sea abroad – a list of items.
Prices in 2026
Staying in Istanbul, of course, is best closer to its historical center – in this case, you will spend a minimum of time on unnecessary travel. At the same time, we recommend saving moderately and not neglecting essential amenities such as air conditioning and a (private) bath or shower in June.
Anything that costs less than €80 per night is a great deal for two people these days. Up to €100 is tolerable if everything inexpensive has already been snapped up by more fortunate (or prudent) travelers.
Of the inexpensive but high-quality hotels, we recommend paying attention to the Grand Peninsula Hotel in Sultanahmet district. In our opinion, this is one of the most optimal options in Istanbul.
In June, you will pay €70-80per night for a room, breakfast is included in the price, and the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia are a 5-8-minute walk away!
More expensive (from € 90 per night) is accommodation in the excellent Ada Hotel Istanbul, also located in the thick of Istanbul events. And, in particular, a couple of hundred meters from the Blue Mosque. Breakfast, by the way, is also included in the receipt.
Excursions in Istanbul have increased significantly in price over the past few years. Not least due to the government’s policy of raising prices (for foreigners) for visiting attractions.
Therefore, cook from about €40 if you want to take a really interesting and eventful tour of the ancient city. You can take part in a boat trip along the Bosphorus for €20-25 (with an audio guide).
What to Do
There are plenty of places of tourist interest in ex-Constantinople. We talked about the main ones earlier, and even connected them with convenient daily travel routes.
But some things, of course, still “remained behind the scenes.” Or at least it was mentioned in passing.
This is normal: it is important for first-time travelers to “see the main thing.” And those who are lucky enough to fall in love with the city can discover something new and unknown in each of their new visits.

We definitely advise you to climb the Galata Tower anyway, even if you wait in line. Though seeing this medieval fortification in person, just from the outside, is like immersing yourself in a fairy tale!
The Catholic Church of Anthony of Padua also lurks in the depths of the bustling Beyoglu district. Surprisingly European, completely atypical for a huge city on the border of Europe and Asia.
At the same time, the church is not old at all – it is just over a hundred years old. But it’s warm, cool – this is important in Istanbul in June – and peaceful. It’s probably sobering, too – once you step out from under its arches into the habitually bustling and lively world of city streets, you no longer want to fuss and hurry…
Be sure to get to the monastery of Chora. Located in the Fatih district, but away from the central historical quarter of Sultanhamet.
Despite the fact that this amazing temple-museum with early Christian frescoes was turned into a functioning mosque, it has not lost its (cultural) significance.
A perfectly logical and even expected step is a boat trip along the Bosphorus. After all, on a hot June day, it is equally refreshing and saturates with vivid impressions. And in the evenings, when the setting sun gives the ancient city its last rays, it becomes immensely romantic…
Where to Go
Is it worth paying a visit to the Princes of the Isles in early summer? We are not sure if this is necessary. Moreover, if your further program includes holidays on the shores of more substantial, “real” resorts.
But a trip to the ruins of Troy, which are still being gradually excavated and cleaned of age-old layers, will be an interesting experience. Moreover, like a visit to Ephesus, it can easily be included in a route that includes a long stopover, say, in Bodrum.
Even by car, you can get from Istanbul to Cappadocia quickly, in 7-8 hours. Although it is located in a completely different “steppe”, much further east. And on a June afternoon, it’s not childishly hot (plus it’s dusty).
If you consider that you need to allocate at least 2-3 days for such a trip, then… However, active travelers will not stop at this. Again, bearing in mind how beautiful and diverse (though dust – in June) Cappadocia is.
We also do not recommend visiting Pamukkale and Hierapolis in the summer.
First of all, it’s too hot there at this time. And secondly, it’s a bit out of the way, unless you’re aiming for an early summer vacation in Antalya. And plan an interim overnight stay somewhere in Denizli.
